We believe that strong, healthy families are the heartbeat of our community, and all kids deserve to be connected to meaningful recreation, leisure, art, and play opportunities.
Staying active helps children stay healthy, live well, and build strong bones and muscles. Outdoor play and participation in sports are important to your child's healthy growth and development.
After School Program
School aged children can come to the Outreach Centre for an activity and snack. Mondays will be games day and Wednesdays, crafts day. This is geared for the children right in the 11th St outreach area.
No need to register!
I Love to Skate
In partnership with the Portage Learning and Literacy Centre and funded by Canadian Tire Jump Start, I Love to Skate is a program that runs approximately 6 weeks. One evening a week, children new to the ice or needing to practice will have an opportunity to gain some skills with the help of volunteers like our own local Portage Terriers.
Hockey Skills
The Hockey Skills Program is a 14-week program run in the North End schools to introduce children to hockey. With the guidance of WinnPro Hockey, time is first spent strengthening skating abilities and then learning hockey skills.
Pals On the Playground
During warmer weather and ending in late August, caregivers and children are invited out 3 nights a week at rotating school playgrounds where an evening activity is led for ninety minutes, followed by a snack. This is run by volunteers and summer students. Please note that this is not a childcare service but rather an opportunity for some structured play. Parents have an opportunity to socialize, and kids get to utilize playground equipment and FRC owned recreational equipment such as soccer nets, jump ropes and more.
Sobeys Summer Camp
Sobeys Summer Camp offers opportunities for children ages 5-12 from all socioeconomic backgrounds to enjoy full days of themed activities in a supportive and inclusive environment. Each week will feature indoor and outdoor play, art & crafts, & the chance to try new recreational activities. We focus on all aspects of recreation while team building and encouraging activities that promote wellness, diversity, and inclusion.
