We believe that strong, healthy families are the heartbeat of our community, and all kids deserve to be connected to meaningful recreation, leisure, art, and play opportunities.  

 Staying active helps children stay healthy, live well, and build strong bones and muscles. Outdoor play and participation in sports are important to your child's healthy growth and development.  

After School Program @ Outreach

School-aged children can come to the Outreach Centre for an activity and snack. This program runs from Monday – Thursday during the school year. This is geared for the children right in the 11th St NW outreach area. 

No need to register!

Before & Afterschool Program @ EAM

Children that attend either EAM or CVS can sign up to join our afterschool program that takes place at EAM! This program is a social enterprise project for the FRC. This means we have to charge to make it sustainable to offer long term but we are able to provide childcare receipts. Children will have the opportunity to connect, play games, make crafts, and learn key information about being a good community citizen! 1. When a registration form is submitted parents will then be emailed Parent  Handbook. A Guidelines & Discipline Policy as well as a Liability  Waiver will need to be signed on the first day at drop off or pick up. 
2. Payment:  we require payment in advance of your child participating in the  program. Families can choose to pay monthly or for any part of the  school year. Spots are not guaranteed until payment is received. Payment can be sent via e-transfer to schools@frcportage.ca . Please ensure your child’s first and last name is in the message box along with the school’s name of the program you are attending (EAM). Receipts will be provided for payments in December and June. 

Payments are $6 for before school, $8 for afterschool, and $10 for  both. Priority is given to full time caregivers and part time may lose  spots at any time if we fill up.

Children that attend YQS can sign up to join our afterschool program that takes place at the school! This program is a social enterprise project for the FRC. (Note: this can take up to 5 business days to receive but all forms are time stamped and will be processed in order). Two weeks before program is set to start, families will be emailed the  Caregiver’s Handbook.   Skating Basics

In partnership with the Portage Learning and Literacy Centre and funded by Canadian Tire Jump Start, skating basics is a program that runs approximately 6 weeks. One evening a week, children new to the ice or needing to practice will have an opportunity to gain some skills with the help of volunteers like our own local Portage Terriers. 

The MOVE Program

 A free physical activity and fitness program for youth ages 12 - 21 with autism and intellectual disabilities.  Run by GoodLife Kids Canada.

  Summer Camp

Summer Camp offers opportunities for children going into kindergarten to age 12 from all socioeconomic backgrounds to enjoy full days filled with themed activities in a supportive and inclusive environment. Each week will feature indoor and outdoor play, art & crafts, and the chance to try new recreational activities. We focus on all aspects of recreation while team building and encouraging activities that promote wellness, diversity, and inclusion. There is a cost of $100/week for camp. Snacks and meals are included and financial assistance is available. Information will be released each April for the upcoming camp year so stay tuned.  

Playbox

FRC has recently purchased a playbox that has been filled with sports equipment for families in the 11th St NW Outreach area. This is FRC’s first playbox, and we hope to expand this to other areas of town in the future! This project was funded by Municipal Relations: BSC Program.

Multisport

FRC is currently working on developing a multi-sport program that will soon be offered to children and youth in our community. This program will focus on teaching basic skills from a variety of sports including soccer, baseball, basketball, cricket, and more! This is a great way to determine what sports a child may be most interested in, and it will provide consistent recreation through the year! More information will be available soon.

Open Gym

FRC is working on the ability to offer open gym time to toddlers and older youth in our community. This will give children the opportunity to engage in non-structured recreation opportunities and provide a place for families to make connections. More information will be available soon!
